About 42 kilometers in the southwest of the city of Jaisalmer lay the most majestic Desert National Park and Sanctuary which has been called so since the 1980s and is preserving the ecosystem of the entire Thar Desert. The area encompasses more than 3,000 square kilometer area of sand dunes, wastelands, and thorn forest which includes the areas surrounding Khuri and Sam.
The Desert National Park has always been rated being in the top 10 of the must visit destinations when in Rajasthan by well known internet review sites like LonelyPlanet and TripAdvisor. The sand dunes are comparable to the might Sahara Desert, going there is not of a hassle because the road is less bumpy and is well maintained by the Indian Armed Force. It is a superb destination for visitors who have interest on the ecosystem of the desert.
It is however a precaution that the national park be avoided during summer season as temperatures reaches 50 degrees Celsius or more. Water supply is an imperative necessity to bring anytime of the day, just make sure to contact the deputy director of the park for a permission to visit, which in case, if you are in a guided tour, is not important matter anymore as the tour operator will cover everything beforehand.
